EnergyWorks BioPower, LLC of Lancaster, PA announced today that it has received process certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for its Energy & Nutrient Recovery Facility, scheduled to begin construction in Central Pennsylvania later this year. The thermo-chemical process is projected to generate the largest number of nitrogen and phosphorous trading credits of any single facility certified in Pennsylvania to date. Measured and verified elimination of nutrients will contribute to improving Chesapeake Bay water quality over the 30-year life of the facility. At full capacity, the facility will process over 250 Tons of animal manure daily to recover minerals for recycling and generate sufficient renewable electricity to power 2500 homes.
The certified nutrient credit process is the result of a three-year collaborative effort by EnergyWorks and Coaltec Energy USA (www.coaltecenergy.com). Tests were conducted at Coaltec's gasification test facility in Carterville, Illinois to obtain scientific and engineering data for development of the design.
